Choosing the right setting for smaller diamonds on a ring shank can make all the difference. The right setting not only enhances the brilliance of each diamond but also ensures durability and adds a touch of elegance to the entire piece. In this blog, we’ll explore some of the best diamond settings for small stones on ring bands

Pavé Setting

In a pavé setting, each small diamond is set very close to the next diamond, with very small ball shaped metal (prongs) holding them in place. The metal almost disappears, and the entire surface of the shank sparkles. Usually seen in lab grown diamond wedding ring and engagement ring, especially for a luxurious or romantic feel. It is the most commonly used setting.

Micro Setting (Delicate setting)

The setting contains delicate prongs that are split to form a V shape, creating a continuous texture appearance from the side. The V-split design allows for more light to enter the diamonds, maximizing their sparkle. The V-shape cuts into the band create a continuous line of diamonds, giving the impression of a continuous, uninterrupted sparkle. The setting draws attention to the diamonds and can create the illusion of a larger diamond.

Channel Setting

Diamonds are set closely in a channel formed by two strips of metal, like books on a shelf. There are no prongs; the diamonds are secured on their sides. A sleek, modern line of diamonds down the band. Very clean and uniform. Wedding bands, men’s rings, and engagement rings with side diamonds. Great for durability with smooth surface won’t catch on clothes.

Shared prong setting

Small prongs (beads) are raised from the band itself to hold each diamond. In shared prong styles, one prong grips two neighbouring stones. Balanced between sparkle and visibility of metal. Looks clean and traditional, but with lots of light reaching each stone. Simple bands, classic engagement rings. It is a little more open than channel settings are still secure, but can catch more easily than channel or flush settings.

Bar Setting

Diamonds are placed in a row, but instead of full channels or prongs, thin vertical metal bars hold them in place between each stone. The top and bottom of each diamond are exposed. You can clearly see the shape of each diamond, giving it a structured Beauty. Contemporary-style bands, both men's and women's. Offers more visibility of the diamond than channel settings while still being secure.

Flush Setting

Each diamond is set into a hole in the band and sits flush with the metal surface. There are no prongs or raised metal and just a clean, polished surface with diamonds embedded. Minimalistic, low-profile sparkle. The diamonds twinkle subtly as light hits them. Often used in lab grown diamond men’s rings or modern, thin designs. This setting is very much durable. Most suitable for everyday wear.
